Why Texture Matters
Studio Journal | 01
"Some ideas begin with a sketch. Others begin with a feeling. This one began with a lifelong fascination with texture."
Written from my studio in Buckinghamshire.
There has always been something about texture that draws me in.
Long before I thought about creating furniture or sculptural wall art, I found myself noticing the surfaces that many people walk straight past—the weathered grain of old timber, the softness of worn stone, the layers left behind by nature and time. Those quiet imperfections have always felt more beautiful to me than anything perfectly polished.
When I founded Touch of Texture, I wasn't simply creating a collection of furniture or artwork. I was creating a place where craftsmanship, sustainability and thoughtful design could come together to produce pieces that feel deeply personal.
I believe our homes should tell our stories.
The spaces we live in should make us feel something. They should welcome us at the end of a busy day, inspire creativity, encourage conversation and, above all, feel authentic. That's why every piece I create begins with a simple question: How will this make someone feel when they live with it every day?
Texture has a remarkable way of transforming a room without demanding attention. It softens light, creates movement through shadow and invites people to slow down and look a little closer. Unlike trends that come and go, texture feels timeless. It connects us to nature, to craftsmanship and to the simple pleasure of living with objects that have been made with care.
Every artwork and every piece of furniture I create is shaped by that philosophy. I work slowly, allowing each design to evolve naturally through layers, materials and experimentation. No two pieces are exactly alike, and I never want them to be. Their individuality is what gives them character, just as every home has its own personality.
Throughout this Journal, I'd like to share more than finished pieces. I'll be opening the doors to my studio, talking about the inspiration behind each collection, exploring interior design ideas, discussing sustainable craftsmanship and sharing the stories that often begin long before the first sketch is made.
Whether you've discovered Touch of Texture because you're searching for the perfect statement piece, you're passionate about contemporary interiors, or you're simply curious about the creative process, I'm delighted you're here.
I hope these pages inspire you to see texture not simply as a design element, but as something that brings warmth, depth and meaning into the places we call home.
Welcome to the Journal.
